Salt Solubility

Learning Goals

You will review some guidelines on ion solubilities from Chapter 5 and become familiar with some common precipitates in nature.

Synopsis

In Chapter 5 you learned how to use some solubility guidelines to predict if a reaction would lead to a precipitate. You need to review that material for the material in this chapter. Table 19.1 lists some common minerals found on Earth. The minerals are important because of the importance of metals and chemicals obtained from these minerals and used in our everyday life.

Review Questions

  1. Predict if the following will be soluble or insoluble in water: AgBr, NaI, BaSO4, Ca(CO3)2, PbCl2
  2. Work Exercise 19.2 in your text.
