Learning Goal

You will learn the historical background of the development of the ideal gas law and how to apply the gas law to stoichiometric problems involving gases in a chemical reaction. You will learn how to deal with gas mixtures and you will learn how to calculate the average velocity of a gas molecule. You will gain an appreciation for gas diffusion that occurs all around us, and you will learn some very practical applications of some of these principles. Finally you will understand that the ideal gas equation is an approximation and you will learn how to make two simple corrections to the equation.
